Punting Lesson

Perfect for Freshers and locals, this 45-minute punting tour and lesson ensures that you get to know the story behind the city as you learn to punt.

Entertain your friends with an adventure as you develop a new skillset and tour the awesome College Backs. It’s the perfect Cambridge experience.

You’ll get a fantastic introduction to Cambridge’s most popular pastime and be surer when you go to take out a boat solo for the first time. Your expert guide will take you along the river and entertain you with our award-winning tour before teaching you as you try your hand with the quant (pole).

Taking a tour and lesson is highly recommended if you want to learn this traditional skill, especially if you are looking to do punt hire adventures or perhaps even moonlight from the lecture theatre as a guide with a little more practice!

On arrival, your boat will be dressed with cushions and blankets for comfort. Your boat and guide will be waiting for you and ready to go at the time that you choose.

Punting Lesson Information

We recommend that you dress for the weather on the day, being sure to put on flat-soled shoes, rubber is really good. Please remember to empty your pockets before standing on the boat, this includes handing over your mobile to your friends!

Our 45-minute punting lesson tours are bookable for up to 6 passengers, ensuring that everyone gets time to try out punting.

Check in at our Bookings Desk, up from our Jesus Green Moorings or just 2 minutes along the boardwalk from the Quayside. Your boat will be ready for you. For last-minute bookings and requests, please contact us on 01223 322200.

Both our boats and our employees will be dressed for the weather on the day. If it’s sunny, your guide will be wearing a waistcoat. Alternatively, at colder times of the year, your guide will wear a professional coat and your boat will be equipped with umbrellas.

What to do if you’re running late? Your private booking will be held for you for 5 minutes, after this point it wouldn’t be possible to go on the tour as this would mean missing our later bookings, affecting other customers. Please call us the moment you know of any delays to your schedule and we’ll try to organise things to accommodate you.
