Dogs on a dog friendly punting experience with Rutherford's Punting Cambridge

Dogs on punts! Yes, mankind’s best friends are very welcome on Rutherford’s dog days out punting experiences in Cambridge.

Rutherford’s offers dog friendly punting trips on the River Cam, allowing you and your dog to enjoy a relaxing voyage through this historic city and see the sights.

Whether you’re happy to try shared tours with other customers or you want a private punting tour for you and your dog, we’ve got the solution to create a dog friendly day out that you and your pet will adore.

What To Expect On A Dog Friendly Punting Trip

Taking a dog friendly punting tour is definitely up there as one of the best ways to enjoy time with your furry best friend. We recommend booking our private boating adventure so that both you and your dog have more space to move around.

Should you choose to join our shared tours, you’ll have to wait until other customers are happy to have your dog onboard with them which is something that we can’t guarantee on every tour!

Whichever option you choose, make sure you book online ahead of time to ensure your space. You can customise your punt tour as you see fit and add tasty treats for yourself such as champagne, prosecco, gin, an artisanal cheese plate, a cream tea or a full picnic.

During your punting tour, you’ll see a range of sights throughout Cambridge, including King’s College Chapel, the elegant Clare College, the stunning St John’s College with its majestic Bridge of Sighs and New Court.

If you choose our combination punting and walking tour, you and your dog can stretch your legs after your punting trip and still get the benefit of our guides and their extensive knowledge of this fascinating university city.

Your dog friendly punting trip in Cambridge is entirely customisable, so you can plan the ideal day out for you, your family and your furry friend.

Tips For Punting Safely With Your Dog

It’s important to bear in mind that you will remain fully responsible for your dog when boarding, disembarking and everything on the tour in between. Here are some simple tips to help you ensure your dog stays calm and safe on your punting tour:

  • Book in advance to ensure you’ve secured your spot
  • Put your dog on a short lead, rather than a long line or an extendable lead
  • Consider a harness or a doggy life jacket with a handle for added control
  • Bring drinking water, treats, toys and blankets to keep your dog calm and comfortable on their journey
  • Pack a towel in case they decide to sit near the edge of the boat and get splashed!
  • Listen to any instructions provided by your tour guide
  • Consider a private trip to allow you to relax and watch the stunning views go by with your pup

Book Your Dog Friendly Cambridge Punt Tour Today

If you’re eager to take your dog punting in Cambridge, then Rutherford’s is here to help. We’re eager to make sure all our customers have a fun and safe experience.

As such, we consider dogs on a case by case basis, and if other passengers aren’t happy, we won’t allow a dog onto a shared punting tour, which is why we recommend considering private tours to ensure you and your dog can enjoy a fun trip.

If your dog is unduly stressed or behaving erratically, then for safety reasons you may not be able to board. In this case, if the dog returns and is behaving calmly, the tour can continue at a later time.
